Welcome to the Maths Curriculum Area

Aims of the Mathematics Curriculum Area

The following aims are intended for all students although the way in which they are implemented will vary according to the students' age and ability.

1. To recognise Mathematics as an essential element of communication.

2. To recognise the effective use of Mathematics as a tool in a wide range of activities within both school and adult life.

3. To appreciate relationships within Mathematics and develop an awareness of the fascination of Mathematics.

4. To encourage initiative, imagination and flexibility of mind when problem solving whether working independently or co-operatively.

5. To establish and increase students confidence in their Mathematical abilities.

MyMaths

In both Key stages some of the lesson are taught using ‘mymaths’, an internet based scheme which pupils can also use at home. www.mymaths.co.uk

Students are also given personal login details by their teacher which allows them to complete homework and worksheets on line the results are then sent into the system for the teacher to see and check

Expectations for lessons

We expect all pupils to:
* remember that they are here to do maths
* try their best
* allow me to teach them and the class
* respect all members of staff and other pupils in the classroom
* respect equipment and text books
* not talk when I am talking
* remain seated at all times
* use polite language

Pupils can expect us to:
* teach, guide and help them to reach at least their target minimum level/grade
*treat all fairly and with respect

EQUIPMENT

All pupils should be fully equipped for their mathematics lesson to enable them to access the curriculum.
