Aims
• We want Students to engage with the past and to see its relevance to today.
• We help all students to experience using primary and secondary source material and to develop their skills in interpreting and understanding these forms of information.
• We hope students will enjoy finding out about past events in Britain and around the world.
• We aim to enable every child to access the lessons through a variety of teaching styles, a range of activities and differentiation to support each learner
• We teach skills for life-critical reading, reaching conclusions, investigative approaches, independence and teamwork.
Key Stage 3
Year 7- Medieval Britain (c.1066-1500), The Making of the UK (c.1500-1750) and The Atlantic Slave Trade.
Year 8- Expansion, Trade and Industry (Britain c.1750-1900), World War I and World War II.
Year 9- The Holocaust, Civil Rights Movements, The Formation of Britain and Colonialism.
In Years 8 and 9 Citizenship is also delivered through History.

Key Stage 4
History is an extremely popular option subject at Ratton with excellent GCSE results, including the highest percentage of A* grades in the school.
We offer the EdExcel History B (Schools History Project) 2HB01 syllabus.
The topics studied at GCSE are:
• Unit 1 (Development Study) Medicine and Treatment (25%)
• Unit 2 (Depth Study) Life in Germany c.1919-1945 (25%)
• Unit 3 (Source Enquiry) The Transformation of Surgery c.1845-1918 (25%)
• Unit 4 (Representations of History) Vietnam 1960-1975 (25%- Controlled Assessment)
